Devon reward club volunteers with a trip to Twickenham

DEVON RFU are taking a group of volunteers to Twickenham on Saturday to watch England play Japan as part of the county’s commitment to rewarding people who give their time and effort to clubs.

For the second year running, Devon asked every club in the county to nominate someone who they thought deserved some recognition.

As a result of the nominations received, a group of 32 volunteers and their partners will be travelling up to London with the county to watch England play.

The list of volunteers being honoured ranges from senior coaches, youth coaches, club administrators and committee members, clubhouse managers, volunteer co-ordinators, groundskeepers and kitchen managers.

The day will consist of a coach trip up to the game, a Devon RFU lunch and presentation at London Welsh RFC before the volunteers are free to take in the England game and meet up afterwards to travel home together.

“We are trying to expand on our volunteer appreciation,” said Devon RFU’s assistant CB volunteer co-ordinator Stuart Quarterman.  “We are looking at reward and recognition, recruitment and retention and looking at developing the senior volunteers with promoting courses like the RFU Leadership Academy, which starts this Thursday.”

Devon successfully ran a similar volunteer trip last season to watch England play Samoa.
